Knik Glacier Sauna & Cold Plunge Adventure
Experience Alaska’s Ultimate Contrast Therapy
Discover one of Alaska’s most unique wellness adventures—an exhilarating ATV journey across the Knik River Valley followed by an authentic wood-fired sauna and optional cold plunges at the foot of the magnificent Knik Glacier.
Your adventure begins with a safety briefing before departing with Alaska Backcountry Adventure Tours. Travel across braided glacial rivers, rugged moraines, and scenic backcountry trails as you make your way to the terminus of the Knik Glacier. Along the route, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of towering mountain peaks, rushing glacial rivers, and the massive glacier stretching more than 25 miles into the Chugach Mountains.
Upon arriving at the glacier, you’ll step into one of Alaska’s most extraordinary wellness settings. Relax inside a traditional wood-fired sauna while taking in panoramic views of ancient blue ice, towering peaks, and floating icebergs. As the sauna reaches the perfect temperature, you’ll have the opportunity to alternate between the soothing heat and an invigorating plunge into the crystal-clear, glacier-fed waters.
For generations, Nordic cultures have embraced the powerful benefits of contrast therapy. Alternating between the warmth of the sauna and the refreshing cold of glacial water is known to promote relaxation, improve circulation, reduce muscle soreness, and leave you feeling refreshed and energized. Whether you’re looking to unwind, recover after a long adventure, or simply experience something truly unique, this unforgettable setting provides the perfect opportunity.
During your time at the glacier, your guide will share the fascinating history of Knik Glacier, explain how glaciers continue to shape Alaska’s landscape, and point out local wildlife that may include moose, bald eagles, black bears, and Dall sheep.
Plan to spend approximately two hours enjoying the sauna and optional cold plunges, with the remainder of the adventure spent traveling to and from the glacier aboard your ATV.
